Privacy Policy

MealScan AI ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the MealScan AI app or website, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information we collect

Account information

When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email address from those providers. We do not see or store your password.

Health & nutrition data

To personalize your goals, we ask for height, weight, age, sex, activity level, and target weight. Each meal you log includes a photo (processed on-device or via our scanning service), the recognized item, portion size, and macro/calorie estimates.

Usage information

We collect basic device and app usage data — device model, OS version, app version, crash logs, and anonymous interaction events — to keep the app stable and improve features.

Subscription information

If you subscribe, Apple manages payment. We receive a transaction identifier and entitlement status from RevenueCat to unlock premium features. We never see your full payment details.

2. How we use your information

• To run the core features of the app — logging meals, tracking goals, generating recaps.
• To improve the food-recognition model when you correct a scan (corrections are anonymized).
• To send service-related notifications, like weekly recap reminders if you've enabled them.
• To detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, or technical issues.
• To comply with legal obligations.

3. How we share information

We do not sell personal information. We share data only with processors that help us run the service:

• Firebase (Google) — authentication, crash reporting, push notifications.
• RevenueCat — subscription state and entitlements.
• Superwall — paywall presentation analytics.
• Apple — payment processing for subscriptions.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (in which case you'll be notified).

4. Data retention

Your account data is retained while your account is active. Meal photos are processed and not retained beyond what's needed to run a scan; only the recognized item, portion, and your edits are stored. You can delete your account at any time — see Section 6.

5. Security

We use industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to limit risk and notify you promptly if we detect a breach affecting your data.

6. Your choices and rights

• Access & export — request a copy of your data by emailing us.
• Correction — edit profile and meal data anytime in the app.
• Deletion — delete your account from Profile → Settings → Delete Account, or via the deletion request form.
• Notifications — turn off push notifications in your device's Settings.

7. Children

MealScan AI is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us so we can delete it.

8. International users

Your data may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States. We rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) when transferring data internationally.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be announced in-app or via email at least 7 days before they take effect. Your continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
